Medik8 Fundamental Principles
Now you are able to get real results for skin
problems without necessarily changing your entire
skincare range - Medik8 can be slotted into current
skincare programs in order to deal specifically with a
condition, targeting the problem area by delivering the
specialized active ingredients directly to the area of
concern. Research and technology forms an integral part
of the Medik8 philosophy.
Dermaceuticals
You may have
heard the term but wondered what exactly a Dermaceutical
is? Essentially, it is a contraction of two words:
Dermatological and Pharmaceutical. Dermaceuticals are
specifically designed for use in skin care and are
developed with the skills of pharmaceutical science
Dermatological +
Pharmaceutical = Dermaceutical
The words
Cosmeceutical and Dermaceutical are usually
interchangeable, with the latter referring to active
skin preparations specifically. Cosmeceuticals is a more
general term referring to any cosmetic application such
as hair and nails.
Clinically Proven
Medik8 only
use pharmaceutical grade ingredients, and clinically
proven technologies.
Pharmacologists
Doctors are
great for diagnosing problems, but rely on the skills
and expertise of Pharmacologists to design the products
they prescribe. At Medik8, all products are researched
& developed by in-house Pharmacologists, to ensure
maximum effectiveness. Unlike Dermatologists, the
average GP has little or no formulatory skills and
therefore their name in front of a brand should not
necessarily carry any special weight.
Cocktail
Theory
All of our
products contain multiple clinically proven actives at
higher concentrations than the standard dose from trial
data, offering the best possible result from topical
therapy. We call this the ‘cocktail theory’. Most of our
competitors use only one active and often just at
concentrations to satisfy impressive sounding label
claims. This means: if topical cosmeceutical therapy is
going to work for you, there is no more powerful
treatment than Medik8.
Peptides
Peptides or protein messengers are the means by which
the body controls the activity of the skin cells. Growth
factor levels decline as we age, causing the skin to
thin and lose elasticity. Replacing these declining
levels of growth factor peptides is the key to reversing
and preventing the ageing process in the skin.
Medik8 growth peptides have been synthesised by
revolutionary biotechnology and are exact copies of the
skin’s normal messengers and not be extracted from human
sources. They work mimetically not adding foreign
substances.
Airless
Packaging
The days of jars and
screw-top bottles are coming to an end for serious
skincare manufacturers. By preventing air from entering
the product environment, the specialised Medik8 airless
packaging protects formulations from becoming
contaminated by bacteria and most importantly prevents
oxidization of expensive and highly active ingredients,
reducing their effectiveness. This means that Medik8
products stay fresh & potent from lab production to
final dose.
Shelf Life
Once opened our products have a shelf life of 12
months minimum and up to 3 years, commonly depending on
the formulation.
Nanotechnology
and Liposomes
As you will be hearing in the press, the future of
anti-ageing skincare is continuing to move towards
science and proven technology. Nanotechnology and
Liposomal particles working together to provide new
levels of ingredient delivery but not all nanotechnology
products are the same. And remember delivery of
ingredients is really important.
To quote our founder “There’s no point having a magic
bullet if there’s no gun to fire it” Liposomes, by
definition, contain a core of aqueous solution; lipid
spheres that contain no aqueous material are called
micelles. A liposome encapsulates a region of aqueous
solution inside a hydrophobic ‘bubble’.
Many people, including other skincare companies are
confused about the role of Liposomes with the advent of
so-called Nanosomes. What skin care professionals need
to know is that a Nanosome is just a small
liposome.
